What is sudan plated lizard?

The Sudan plated lizard, scientifically known as Gerrhosaurus major, is a species of lizard native to East Africa, particularly Sudan, Kenya, and Uganda. They inhabit dry, rocky habitats and are known for their striking coloration and distinct bony plates that cover their bodies.

These lizards have a robust body, a long tail, and powerful limbs with sharp claws, which they use for climbing rocks and digging. They are predominantly herbivorous, feeding on fruits, vegetation, and insects.

Sudan plated lizards are often kept as exotic pets due to their attractive appearance and relatively docile nature. They require a warm, dry environment with plenty of hiding spots and basking areas. They are not particularly social animals and may become aggressive towards other lizards if kept in close proximity.

With proper care and a suitable habitat, Sudan plated lizards can live up to 10-15 years in captivity. It is important to provide them with a balanced diet and regular veterinary check-ups to ensure their health and well-being.
